Summer makes me think of books set in the summer (duh) but also by a beach (double duh;) But when I think of fantasy books in particular, I think of those story elements that are exclusive to the genre and scream fantasy summer. Like, mermaids and sirens, pirates, water magic, and ocean adventures. This list of romantasy books to read in summer have at least one of those elements to give you the perfect summer book recommendations. As always, the books featured here have no spice. A Bounty of Secrets and Rebellion
Of course I have to put my book in this list! With an FMC who loves the beach and has water powers, not to mention the pirates that lurk off the coast of her kingdom, you’ve got the perfect summer book! I recommend you read this book at the end of summer since the next books in the series transitions to fall, allowing you to keep the seasonal reading going.
A Song of Darkness
This is advertised as having Little Mermaid vibes but for adults! Nothing says summer like sirens and pirates with a mythological twist! And the even better news? It’s a standalone, so you can enjoy this novel during the summer and not get pulled into a long series you might not be able to finish during the hot season.
A Story Spun in Scarlet
If you feel like getting lost in a lush world with lots of adventure and lyrical prose, A Story Spun in Scarlet is your book! Pirates, seafaring adventure and quests make for a beautiful and captivating summer read. This is also a standalone, but it is an epic length at 600+ pages so bear in mind when lining up your summer reading list.
The Saltwater Heir
Another epic tale, The Saltwater Heir is a 600+ page intro to a four book series. With a surfer prince connected to the ocean as one of the main characters, and a title that reminds you of the sea, The Blood and Water Saga will keep you entertained all through the summer!
Emerald of the Sea
Just look at that beautiful cover! Not that we are judging books by their covers (we totally are) Emerald of the Sea is another great romantasy book to read in summer that has just the right amount of adventure, pirates and romance. This is a completed duology so you can be sure to finish the series while you are still in that summer book mood.
Daughter of the Pirate King
Of course I had to feature a swashbuckling pirate adventure in my romantasy books to read in summer list! This is the first book in a completed trilogy that is perfect for young adults. Read this book, saavy?
Fable
This book is set by the sea with the main character living on an island and knows how to deep dive. I mean, can you get any more summery?? This book series is a duology, so if you only have time for a few summer books this year, you can read Fable in June and the sequel, Namesake in July to hit that summer book goal before school starts in August.
Siren’s Treasure
Another Little Mermaid retelling and a standalone! This book has ocean magic, a mermaid/pirate enemies-to-lovers romance, and high-stakes adventure that is perfect to fill in the gaps of your summer reading list.
The Harvest
More mermaids! This completed trilogy is excellent for young adults looking for no spice romance with some Greek mythology and, of course, sirens!
To Kill a Kingdom
An action-packed standalone story with a deadly siren princess against a siren-hunting human prince both fighting to protect their kingdoms. Uhm, enemies to lovers this summer anyone??
Dark Shores
This four book series starts off with a seafaring adventure with ancient Roman inspiration, enemies to lovers, and meddlesome gods that make for an exciting series that will last you all summer.
On These Black Sands
Finally, we’ve got a pirate adventure with slow burn romance and a reluctant hero in this completed trilogy for young adults.
