⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
It astounds me how good this book is. Even better than the first, though that book was a solid five stars. If I could give more than five stars, I would, and I’ve never felt that my star rating system wasn’t enough for me.
The sheer number of jaw-dropping plot twists I didn’t see coming is mind-blowing. And the heartache! The TENSION! The pure insanity that is this plot. The way T.A. Lawrence managed to twist my heart up for these characters is quite the feat because I’m not an emotional reader. It’s just a story. It’s not real. This awareness has always prevented me from truly *feeling* for characters.
But this book? Consider me emotionally caught hook, line, and sinker. This story is HEARTBREAKING. Devastating. Tragic! It will destroy you from the inside out. The only reason I have to keep going is the author’s promise of a HEA. But do these characters have to work for it? Yes. Yes, they do. I’ve already said in my previous review of book one that it’s dark. This book exemplifies the truth that you can’t enjoy the light without experiencing the darkness. I’m trusting Lawrence that the light will come because MAN! It hurtsss.

Summary From Amazon:
He can’t feel pain. She intends to change that.
Captured by the villainous Captain Astor and betrayed by her mate, Wendy finds herself aboard a ship swathed in shadows, among a crew of pirates who don’t know what to think of her. But when Wendy discovers what Captain Astor so desperately needs from her, she discovers an opportunity to use the captain to pursue her own agenda: free Peter from the curse that leaves him incapable of feeling pain and unable to love Wendy completely.
Unfortunately for Wendy, helping the captain means facing a horrific piece of her own history – one she would have rather gone without knowing.
Because truth comes at a price.
And curses don’t break for free.
