I am excited to share my Losing Wendy book review with you today. Spoiler alert: this book was a solid five stars! Read on to find out what makes this self-published book so spectacular!

I shared in my last book review that Peter Pan is my all-time favorite classic book and Disney movie. So of course, after I read Never Heir, I had to read this dark, Peter Pan retelling by T.A. Lawrence. Without further ado, let’s get into my Losing Wendy book review.

✍️ Author: T.A. Lawrence
⚙️ Genre: YA Fairytale Retelling
🧑💻 Self Published
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
I tend to get into a Peter Pan retelling kick about this time of year. As it’s my favorite from childhood, plus the magical adventure, pirates and fairies that await in Neverland make it the perfect summer vibes type book.
Losing Wendy is by far the most mind-blowing retelling I’ve ever read of Peter Pan. Firstly, because of how dark it is. There are very dark themes such a drug addiction, murder, and sexual assault. While this is a non-explicit, no spice book, the themes within are definitely geared toward adult readers so parents, be advised.
That aside, the detailed world building and emotionally rich narrative, together with the mystery and plot twists are truly top tier. T.A. Lawrence is a gifted writer who manages to make something unique from a classic story. I’m blown away that this is a self-published work and as an indie author myself, I have to hand it to Lawrence. Her writing is my personal standard.
Some things you might enjoy:
Pirates 🏴☠️
Mate bonds 💞
Faeries 🧚♀️
Shadow magic 🌚
Readers who enjoy dark fairytale retellings with no spice, slow burn romance and rich world building will love this masterfully written twist on a classic tale.

Summary From Amazon:
When Wendy’s parents made a bargain with a Fate to save her from a deathly illness as a child, they thought the terms were simple: Marry her off before her twentieth birthday or else deliver her over to the Shadow Keeper.
But when a Mating Mark appears on Wendy’s skin, finding a husband becomes a tad more complicated. After all, no one wants a wife mated to another man.
As Wendy’s twentieth birthday approaches and she’s yet to find a man who will take her, she and her parents throw a masquerade ball in a last ditch effort to free her from her curse.
But nothing is as it seems, and when a mysterious dark-haired captain with a Mating Mark and a vendetta against Wendy’s family crashes the masquerade, Wendy quickly discovers that the fae Shadow Keeper she’s been scheming to escape might just be her only hope.
