Do you love to read fantasy? Are you interested in reading more indie authored books? Then you’ve come to the right place! In this post, I’m recommending a few amazing fantasy romance books to get you started reading indie authors!

Why Read Indie Books?
First off, let’s talk about why you should read indie-authored books. In short, we need you! (In case you didn’t know, I’m an indie author, so I speak from experience!)
When you take a chance on an indie author, you are, first of all, reading the book they worked so hard to write. You are fulfilling their dream to share their stories with readers! Yay! When an author sees someone reading their book, it spurs them on to keep writing, which is SO helpful in an author’s journey. You are also supporting their business and, by extension, their family, especially if the author is writing to provide additional income for their family. You get the joy and escape of a good story, and the author gets to live their dream and provide for their family. It’s a win-win! Reading indie books is just one of many ways you can support indie authors. I did a whole post on how to support indie authors. You can read about it here.
Now let’s get into my list of self-published fantasy romance books to get you started reading more indie authors!
Self-Published Fantasy Romance Books To Try:

Royal Decoy
If you are new to the fantasy genre altogether, Royal Decoy is the perfect gateway to fantasy romance. In this series, there is no magic system you have to learn or complex world-building to get through. Royal Decoy is set in a fantasy land with a somewhat historical/medieval vibe that is very understandable and easy to read. It might interest you to know that Heather’s books inspired my own writing journey. She even helped me through the self-publishing process. Support Heather today and started reading The Fate of Eryinthia series!

A Bounty of Secrets and Rebellion
I’ll shamelessly plug my own books any chance I get 🙂 If you want a simple setting, but more magic, The Chronicles of Tanithor is a great place to start. There is elemental magic, i.e. water, earth, fire, and air powers, but the world-building isn’t too complex for the new-to-fantasy-genre reader. I always appreciate your support of my work if you choose to give my books a shot! (P.S. did you know that just hanging out with me on my website is also supporting me? Thank you for being here! Also, if you choose to purchase any books through the links I provide, that also helps support me since I am an Amazon affiliate, where I make a small commission at no additional cost to you.)

Bride of the Fae Prince
Perhaps you are in the mood for faeries and swoony romance. Bride of the Fae Prince by Anastasia Blythe will definitely scratch that itch! This is a deliciously sweet enemies-to-lovers faerie romance that is the perfect gateway to all things faerie! Discover the different kinds of faeries and what their ruthless nature is like, plus, get swept away into a magical world similar to our own but better! Anastasia Blythe is not only a self-published author but a fellow Texan! Jump into the magical world of faeries today!

On Wings of Ash and Dust
Games and trials is another amazing sub-genre of fantasy if that is more your style. Brittany Wang’s On Wings of Ash and Dust combine the deadly trials of The Hunger Games with magical creatures like mermaids, dragons and faeries! Jump into this action-packed, no-spice romance that will keep you up until the early morning hours reading “just one more chapter.” Brittany is also an amazing human who has been so supportive of fellow indie authors. It is always my honor to feature her in my book lists.

A Word So Fitly Spoken
Let’s talk about the dark side of fantasy for a moment. You might enjoy T.A. Lawrence’s Severed Realms series of dark fairy tale retellings. OR, if you want the darkest of them all, The Lost Girl series might be more for you. Lawrence is another of my personal favorite indie authors. She doesn’t know it yet, but we are basically best friends. I adore her writing style and emotionally rich narratives. If you enjoy dark fairy tale retellings, Lawrence is your girl.

Well of Eida
Let’s take things up a notch and talk about epic fantasy for the fantasy reader who isn’t afraid of pronunciation guides at the beginning of the stories they read. Set to be a six-book series, Well of Eida is the start of an epic fantasy romance with monster shifters! This is a portal fantasy that is action-packed with high stakes that will keep you on the edge of your seat. With complex, morally grey characters and rich world-building, you will no doubt get lost in this enchantingly epic tale by K.B. Benson.

Well of Dreams
Now let’s shift things a bit and take a look at an alternate side of fantasy known as dystopian fantasy. Well of Dreams by Kayla Ann is set in a post-apocalyptic world but with magic! Enjoy a unique twist on the fantasy genre in this thrilling start to an epic saga. Kayla works so hard to write, edit, and publish her books, as well as market them on social media. Unfortunately, she has been the victim of plagiarism, which has negatively impacted her writing career. Reading her books would greatly help her and encourage her in her writing and publishing journey.
Conclusion
I could go on and on but since this is just a starter list, I’ll leave it at that. I think I covered all sub-genres of fantasy romance, from no-magic fantasy worlds to epic, multi-book fantasy series. As an indie author, I’ve come across a lot of other amazing indie authors. I try to include as many indies as I can in my book lists, but if you know any self-published fantasy romance books that deserve a shout-out, feel free to drop their names in the comments below! I’m always looking to read more indie authors, and I hope this list gets you started reading self-published fantasy romance books!
