Wisteria Book Review

📔 Book: Wisteria
✍️ Author: Adalyn Grace
⚙️ Genre: YA Fantasy Romance but SHOULD BE NA
Honestly, it’s been so long time since I read Foxglove, and I jumped right into this with no review. Wisteria has no summary of past events included in the beginning, and continues with the understanding that the reader is already familiar with how Blythe ended up where she is at the start of this book. So if it’s been awhile since you’ve been in the Belladonna world, I suggest re-reading what happened before you start book three.
So this book had a slow start for me. The banter between Blythe and Aris helped a little, but it was clear the first 30% was the set up for the actual story. Not bad, just slow. It picked up significantly after that, and I thoroughly enjoyed the unique magical elements that is prevalent in the entire series.
In addition to the slow start, I have two more criticisms for this book. The first is that while the FMC is 21 and married, this book is labeled Young Adult and includes one descriptive intimate or spicy scene nearly 70% into the story. I did not appreciate the surprise, open door scene. Therefore, this book, despite being labeled YA, is not suitable for YA and would be better classified as New Adult.
The second criticism is the inclusion of a prologue. I read it before starting chapter 1 (naturally) and unfortunately it ruined the surprise plot twist. There’s another plot twist shortly following the first that I didn’t see coming, but had I not read the prologue, I would have been doubly surprised. So my suggestion is to read the prologue after chapter 18 as a flashback chapter if you want to be properly surprised.
Despite those downsides, this book was a lot of fun. I loved the magic and whimsical nature of this series. The writing was beautiful, and the end wrapped up everything perfectly. A solid end to the trilogy.

Summary From Amazon:
Blythe Hawthorne has never let anyone tell her what to do—not society, not her overprotective father, and certainly not the man she’s bound herself to, no matter how rude and insufferable he is. In fact, she’s determined to be a thorn in his side for the rest of her days, even as he ensures that her life in his palace is anything but a fairytale. But as Blythe discovers a new side of herself linked to his past, she’ll have to decide if she’s willing to let an unexpected spark ignite…and to discover the truth about who she really is.
